Dr. Andrea Tate has over 20 years of veterinary medicine and surgical experience in small and large animal practices. She is a 1989 graduate of Murray State University’s Agriculture/Animal Health Technology program and a 1999 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine program.
She has operated her own mixed animal veterinary hospital in Alabama, as well as having been the Director of Equine Therapy at Midway College in Midway, KY. This sparked a passion for including alternative therapies in her work, such as laser, massage, chiropractic, and acupressure. She is currently enrolled in a mixed animal chiropractic course.
Family ties brought her to Clarksville, where she was employed by Banfield Pet Hospital in Clarksville, TN for 14 years. As Chief of Staff of a full-service veterinary hospital, she managed a team of doctors and veterinary assistants devoted to the wellness and preventive care of pets.
In addition to mentoring graduating veterinarians, Dr. Tate was involved with the summer internship programs for junior veterinary students and aiding equine rescue organizations with medical triage and fostering. She is currently an adjunct professor at Austin Peay State University, where she instructs senior veterinary technology students in their critical care course of study.
Dr. Tate’s specialties include emergency and critical care medicine, as well as orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. Her Banfield team received the Quality of Medicine awards for all Tennessee Banfield Pet Hospitals for three years consecutively and she has been nominated as a top Tennessee Orthopedic Veterinary Surgeon.
More recently, Dr. Tate has developed an interest in geriatric pet medicine. Her new goals include pain management with alternative therapies, incorporating weight management protocols, CBD treatments, and laser therapy for pets while continuing to focus on providing fear-free medicine techniques. As a team member of Overwatch Animal Hospital, she is looking forward to expanding on these exciting goals, as well as gaining knowledge of exotic animal medicine!
In her spare time, Dr. Tate enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and grandkids, as well as her four dogs and six horses. Her dream would be to ride in a dressage competition someday.
