Dr. Tate

Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Andrea Tate has over 20 years of veterinary medicine and surgical experience in small and large animal practice. She is a 1999 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, and a 1989 graduate of Murray State University’s Agriculture/Animal Health Technology program. She has operated her own mixed animal veterinary hospital in Alabama, as well as having been the Director of Equine Therapy at Midway College, Midway, Ky. This sparked a passion for including alternative therapies, such as laser, massage, chiropractic, and acupressure. She is currently enrolled in a mixed animal chiropractic course.

Family ties brought her to Clarksville, where she was employed by Banfield Pet Hospital in Clarksville, TN for 14 years. As Chief of Staff of a full-service veterinary hospital, she managed a team of doctors and veterinary assistants devoted to the wellness and preventive care of pets. In addition to mentoring graduating veterinarians, Dr. Tate was involved with the summer internship programs for junior veterinary students and aiding equine rescue organizations with medical triage and fostering. She is currently an adjunct professor of Austin Peay State University, where she instructs senior veterinary technology students in their critical care course of study.

Dr. Tate’s specialties include emergency and critical care medicine, as well as orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. Her Banfield team received the Quality of Medicine awards for all Tennessee Banfield Pet Hospitals for three years consecutively and she has been previously nominated as a top Tennessee Orthopedic Veterinary Surgeon.

Dr. Tate more recently has developed an interest in geriatric pet medicine with her new goals on pain management with alternative therapies, incorporating weight management protocols, CBD treatments and laser therapy for pets, while continuing to focus on providing fear-free medicine techniques. As a team member of Overwatch Animal Hospital, she is looking forward to expanding on these exciting goals, as well as gaining insightful knowledge into exotic medicine!

In her spare time, Dr. Tate enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and grandkids, as well as her four dogs and six horses. Her dream goal would be to ride in a dressage competition some day!

Practice Manager
Eleanor was born and raised in Syracuse. NY. She joined the US Army in 1984, married a soldier while they were on active duty and they have three daughters. They also have four grandchildren, a six year old grandson and three year old triplet granddaughters.

Eleanor began her veterinary career in 2003 at a 2-doctor general practice in Rockville, MD. She often describes this as a gold standard practice and aspires to be the technician she was taught to be while employed there. She brought those same ideals with her into management when she took over the management of an Emergency and Referral Center in Waldorf, MD in 2006. Since that time, Eleanor has managed a General Practice as well as the medical team of a large animal shelter both in Pittsburgh, PA. She is a member of the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association and is working toward designation as a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager.

She has also completed her associates in veterinary technology from Penn Foster College and holds licenses in Pennsylvania, New York and will soon be licensed in Tennessee. When she’s not at work, Eleanor enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. She shares her home here in Clarksville with three cats, a DSH named Duckie, an Exotic Shorthair named Aksana and a Persian named Jaime. (or Sir Jaime Lannister if we’re honest) and a lab mix named Lydia.

Candy is married to her childhood sweetheart and has two children. She and her family enjoy spending time at the lake and boating. She owns two Staffordshire Terriers, Taisley and Titan, who she shows in AKC dog shows. Both pets have been successful and even come home with several ribbons and an invite to the international dog show in Florida!
